When you were young did you ever make any predictions?

I remember when I was in the first year of Secondary school (about 1998) we were asked in 1 Art lesson to draw what we thought the world would be like 50 years from then. So that means we were asked to think what the world would be like in the year 2048.

Now as a 12/13 year old I had a very active imagination. I remember drawing flying cars, spaceships, giant walking robots etc.

But now I think about it, how likely is some of this?



Flying Cars
Flying Cars have been in development for a long time. I remember seeing the car linked above a few years back on a popular gadget and gift site. But how do you define what a Flying car is, or what is basically an aircraft?

Cryogenics
There are numerous websites offering Cryogenic equipment with some even offering to freeze you. The problem is we have no way of unfreezing yet. The thousands of people who have already used this process on themselves have no guarantee that they will ever be able to be brought back from the icy stasis.

Nano machines
Nano machines are machines built from an individual atom. They are expected in the future to be able to enter living cells and help fight disease. But what are the dangers to this? Could we be a society walking around with this robots inside of us, afraid of hte next big computer virus with doctor visits consisting of entering a small booth and plugging yourself in via USB to download the latest updates to your antivirus software?

Spaceships
With NASA recently closing their shuttle programme it is now down to private companies to provide ships for space travel. With a number of big companies already taking bookings for space travel and hotels it is only a matter of time until it becomes a case of families visiting Disney Land Moon.

Teleportation
Teleportation has had a strong presence in Sci-fi for decades. The thought of being able to get from point A to point B in a blink of an eye is appealing to everyone. Allowing for quick travel over thousands of miles or the transportation of goods without the costs of fuel is very appealing. With recent breakthroughs reported, teleportation could no longer be a thing of dreams in the near future.

These are just a few things that have come to mind. I will make more posts as I think or come across more possibilities.
