The English education of Japanese (My Opinion)

So my job is an English teacher in Japan. I work in a Private elementary school that teaches English to all grades of students. This is a bit out of the norm as in Japanese public schools, only elementary school grade 5 and 6 are mandatory to learn English.

This already creates a language gap between students. But I guess that is the same with any country and private and public education. The families pay to attend the school so the students get a different education.

Any who, last year I was a public school teacher. The books that they use (depending on the prefecture depends on the books that are used by schools) the level of English is of a very low level. Also, we do not teach reading and writing in public schools. To make matters worse, when they attend Junior High school the level of the textbooks takes a massive jump and then they are reading, writing and listening in English. Although the grammar points are taught in Japanese.

I am by no means an expert on language learning. I struggling to find methods that work for me to learn Japanese. But after teaching in public school for two years I do know an ineffective method of learning English.

A few years back the Japanese government changed the mandatory age of learning English down to 5th and 6th grade. Then, each prefecture had to design its English program. The one I taught felt like it was just done to say "Hey look we are teaching English" and that was that.

I do not really know where I am going with this so i'm going to finish this here. Have a good day all.

Is living in space a dream or a nightmare?

For now, Space is the ultimate goal for mankind. We have dreamed of inhabiting space and other planets since first venturing into the vast cold void. But what are the realities when it comes down to it?

When you were young did you ever make any predictions?

I remember when I was in the first year of Secondary school (about 1998) we were asked in 1 Art lesson to draw what we thought the world would be like 50 years from then. So that means we were asked to think what the world would be like in the year 2048.

Now as a 12/13 year old I had a very active imagination. I remember drawing flying cars, spaceships, giant walking robots etc.

But now I think about it, how likely is some of this?

Nuclear Power, our greatest ally or worse enemy?

Nuclear power......

Nuclear energy has been around for awhile. When discovered during the early 20th century man wanted nothing more then to harness the great amount of energy that Nuclear material brought with it. The problem was it had very finite life. It's common sense to know that if something releases a great amount of energy in a short amount of time, it will have a shorter life span. Nuclear fission was discovered during the late 1930's and from there the use of Nuclear energy has evolved ever since.

But is it worth the risks?

How difficult is it to be truly unique?

Have you ever sat there and thought to yourself "I have the greatest idea for X" Now X can be anything. Movie, song, comic, character designs, game, book etc etc.

What makes Japan magical to me (Part 1)

I am going to begin some articles as to why I find Japan magical. My first article is going to be on something most countries have also, but Japan does it so much different.

This article is on the different kinds of vending machines in Japan.

The most dangerous weapon is a writers words

Let me put you in a metaphoric situation and really take a minute to think about the answer.

You are in a room with 1000 people. You have 2 tools in front of you. A pistol loaded with 12 shots and a well  thought out speech. Which tool is the most dangerous and will effect more peoples lives?

My answer to this is going to come from looking at both options.

A short quick post

Is gaming truly bad for your health? I understand (as I am a victim myself) that to much gaming in dark rooms, staring at screens, eating snacks which are bad for you is detrimental to your health. My eyes are blurry and I carry a few extra pounds.

A writers eyes are like bottomless pools of imagination and wonder

Is it possible for anyone to achieve true greatness. How do you define what true greatness really is?

I myself have often wondered how one could achieve something truly great, to leave my mark on the world. This led to me to look at how other people did this. There are numerous ways to be remembered by the world, some great and some truly horrific. I am going to write a few words about some people who have left there mark for one reason or another.

A Writers Mind Can Be A Wonderful Place

My Blog

As the title suggests, a writer's mind can be a wonderful place. A writer can take us to places we could of only dreamed of. Lately I have been stuck in a bit of a rut. I am currently in a situation in which I have little to do. I have decided to start writing some words down and seeing where it can take me.

My first post will be how people have inspired me. Inspiration for me comes in many forms. From something as simple as a piece of music to a chance encounter. The current world population is approx 7 Billion+. How many from this large number can you say have truly inspired you? For me, I can say not to many. Some people have brought on different emotions, such as anger, love or happiness but only a few have truly affected my thought pattern.
